Mercado Mexican Kitchen Nachos

What a time to be alive! I anticipated the opening of Mercado Mexican Kitchen and Bar which is located at Kenrail Towers, next to Nine West building in Westlands (more info here). I was so happy that a casual street-food-style joint focusing on Mexican food was opening somewhere close to my house. I have to say, this review is way overdue and I promise to make a better one with full details the next time I visit.

Mercado has a fun light hearted atmosphere with the most Instagram worthy ceiling of chandeliers. It makes the perfect setting for a laid back dinner and a homey Mexican favorite. The bar is perfect for one-on-one conversations. See for yourself here.

But let's talk about the food. There are sixteen options on the menu: tacos, salads, burritos, nachos, enchiladas ,quesadillas, to name a few. For each, you can choose from vegetarian, beef, chicken, and sea food. You can get their menus here.

I ordered the Nachos Mexicana (ksh 950). Tender, juicy, thinly shredded chicken was piled over crisp tortilla chips, re-fried beans, fresh guacamole, sour cream and gratin with melted cheese. The portion size could easily feed two adults, while every bite was messy and so delicious.

The tortillas are perfectly chewy, and just thin enough to avoid overly-doughy bites, while still thick enough to hold in all of the quality ingredients.

It is a busy restaurant so I would recommend making a reservation which is easy and can be done here. If you don't make a reservation, you might have to wait for a table which is not fun. Other than that, I highly endorse. :)
